Welcome, and thank you for visiting Inner Thoughts Counselling. My name is Susan and I am a therapist providing both short and long term therapy to adult individuals online in East Lothian and throughout the UK

Counselling with Care and Understanding

Having over 20 years of carer experience as a mix of paid care work in organisations and being an unpaid carer for several different people, I understand the importance and power being listened too has.


This is what brought me on my journey to become a counsellor starting with completing a certificate in counselling skills before moving onto completing a diploma in counselling for adults over 18. After completing the diploma I completed further training in online counselling and engaging in continuing professional development (CPD) regularly.


Working ethically I’m a member of National Counselling & Psychotherapy Society (NCPS) and UK GDPR compliant.

A Supportive and Personal Approach to Online Therapy

As a qualified and experienced pluralistic counsellor, I work collaboratively with you to find the right combination of therapeutic approaches.

Finding the right mix for you

Using person-centred therapy as a foundation, and sometimes integrating elements of psychodynamic or CBT, our sessions are always guided by you – allowing your journey of self-discovery to be personal and meaningful.

A safe and non-judgemental space

You’ll be offered a confidential, non-judgemental and empathetic environment for exploring your emotions, inner thoughts and choices.

Time to reflect and move forward

This process creates the space for reflection and helps you consider the direction you may want to move towards in your life.

Online Counselling Wherever You Are

Distance is no object if you feel you would like to work with myself, as I offer online counselling throughout the UK.


Whether you live in a city such as Edinburgh, Glasgow, Perth, Dundee, Newcastle or York, or a more rural setting such as the Lothians, Borders, Fife, Berwickshire, Dumfries and Galloway, the Lake Districts, Highlands and Islands, Lanarkshire or the Cotswolds, you can receive therapy from the comfort of your own home – as long as you have working wifi, a quiet and private space with no disruptions or distractions.

Sessions & Fees

Sessions will last 50 mins and will cost £50 per session.


Sessions are currently online only using a secure video platform.


I offer a free introductory online session lasting up to 30 mins which allows you to decide whether you feel comfortable working with myself.

When you're looking to work with a counsellor or therapist it can feel overwhelming – however, you have just taken the first step on your journey.

How I Work in Therapy

During therapy you might expect me to be giving you answers or solving problems for you. However, this is not how I work.


I believe you are the only person who knows what’s right for you and your situation.


You hold the answers – I simply facilitate a space for exploration and may gently challenge you when it helps you to gain clarity and insight.

This initial meeting offers an opportunity to talk about what brings you to counselling, explore what you hope to gain from it, and see whether working together feels right for you.

All enquiries are treated with the utmost confidentiality and are usually answered within 48 hours. Communication is carried out securely via email and online platforms to ensure your privacy at every stage.
